Are you looking for a counsellor or therapist? You may also be wondering whether you need counselling or psychotherapy or what it can do for you.
It can be helpful, effective, rewarding, supportive, challenging, healing and sometimes life-changing. It can deal, in a confidential setting, with a wide range of concerns or troubles.
I work mainly with clients over 21. The issues involved include anxieties, stress, depression, relationship difficulties, loss, the consequences of emotional or physical abuse or trauma, crisis and disillusionment. Sometimes there are specific clinical names to describe these conditions; often there are not.
I take an integrated approach to the work. This draws on various kinds of therapeutic and counselling techniques as may seem appropriate.
I have several years experience of both short-term work (6-12 sessions) and longer term work for limited or unlimited periods. Clients refer themselves directly or are referred by GPs or other professionals. In addition to private practice I work as an assessor at Ealing Abbey Counselling Service, one of the largest voluntary sector providers in the South East (www.eacs.org.uk), and hold an appointment as psychotherapist with Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (Focus Homeless Outreach Team). I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and adhere to its code of ethics (www.bacp.org.uk).
In choosing a counsellor or psychotherapist it is important to speak to and/or meet him or her before deciding. I am available at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education, W2 (www.ccpe.org.uk), or in the City, EC3, or in West London, W12.
